Description

We are currently inviting applications for the post of Chief Mate aboard S/Y Vela (112ft) sailing in South East Asia. This is a unique opportunity to assist in completing the build and systems installation prior to launch and sea-trials in March. Vela will sail her maiden voyage, with students this summer on an 80-day Itinerary from Thailand to Bali before transiting the Indian Ocean, to Cape Town in September.

Applicants should hold enough prior experience to feel comfortable potentially stepping up into a paid Rotational Skipper's role within 5 months.

Responsibilities include on‐site support and supervision of all operational aspects of our Programs as they relate to vessel movements, technical support and vessel maintenance. Other specific duties include, but are not limited to supervision, general welfare, and safety of the students aboard, appropriate role-modeling for the students and procurement of supplies and provisioning.
