Description

Saol Nua is now approaching the North East coast of Brazil. We plan to dock at the port of Recife City which is 8 degrees South of the equator and in the State of Pernambuco.

The boat will set sail for the Azores islands 3100 Nautical miles away. She will follow the trade winds route, first reaching across the South East Trades to 2 or 3 degrees North of the equator. Then reaching across the North East Trade winds from 7 degrees North after the doldrums. She will continue sailing to about 33 degrees North and nearly 40 degrees West before turning East for the Azores island Terceira 39 degrees North and 27 degrees West.

This is a lovely opportunity to sail across the equator, a rite-of-passage for most would be ocean sailors. The journey will take between 25 and 30 days depending on the Trade winds and the extent of the Azores high pressure zone when we arrive in that region.

Interested crew members need to bring factor 50 sun block, good humour and maybe reading material.
