Experience building - Deck Hand/Steward

Back Soon is a 24m "pocket" superyacht. Built in 1984 and then completely refitted between 2012 and 2017 she is a beautiful and classy lady. I sail her in the Med and in 2019 will be based in La Linea near Gibraltar. My wife Kate and I run Back Soon ourselves sometimes assisted by guests. In 2018 we were joined for two months by the son of a friend who wanted to get into the superyacht world. He had completed STCW and powerboat level 1. I trained him in a wide range of skills ranging from engine room and system maintenance, general maintenance, deckhand duties, stewarding, hospitality, watchkeeping on passage, yacht security and tried to pass on as much of my knowledge as possible. I provided him with a CV and he is now on a 30m yacht. It has been suggested to me that getting on the first rung of the ladder is difficult and that I had given him the boost he needed.
